Sofrito: Tropical Discotheque

Strut has been on fire lately, releasing record after record of new and vintage tunes ranging from Walter Gibbons disco remixes to West African funk and salsa. One of their latest releases, “Sofrito: Tropical Discotheque,” is a compilation assembled by DJs Hugo Mendez, Frankie Francis, and The Mighty Crime Minister (big ups to the Minister for his excellent stage name). This UK collective plays a party called Sofrito dedicated to Latin, African, and Caribbean music, and by the sound of this comp, I’d say they do it damn well. Hugo Mendez put together a promo mix for the release and it’s a must-listen for fans of Sol Power.

The comp is coming out on January 25 and will be available on CD, LP, and download, so I can guarantee you’ll hear a tune or two from this at the next Sol Power at ESL on February 5th.
