Empresarios & Kid Gusto

This post is dedicated to two killer new releases from DC-bred musical powerhouses, the Empresarios and Kid Gusto. The Empresarios have been releasing some memorable latin jams for a few years now, but their latest EP, Bestia, is probably their best effort yet. Packed with heat including two latin house bombs and a cumbia cut aimed straight at the dancefloor, this could be the one that really puts them on the map. It’s already gotten some burn from us at the last Sol Power and is destined to become a staple. Check out the tunes and follow them on their Soundcloud and cop it at Itunes or Juno.

Our good friend and LA-transplant Kid Gusto has been creating extra tasty latin and african edits and remixes for years and he’s got a new EP out as well, on the always-great Bstrd Boots label. The focus on the Tiro Al Blanco EP is drum-heavy edits of classic cumbia and latin funk songs. Kid Gusto knows just how to eke out something extra when he attacks a track- no fancy filters or extraneous synth lines that can obscure the beauty of the sample source, just effective drum programming that gets people on the dance floor. No digital version is available yet, but this is one that’s worth copping on wax. Juno and Phonica have it now, and I’m sure it’ll be cropping up around the rest of the world soon.
