Sol Power All-Stars @ ESL & Forward Fest this Weekend!

We’ve got a double-whammy Sol Power All-Star weekend. First up, is our return to ESL. If you missed us last time, you can take a listen by clicking here and I’m certain you will never again make such a terrible mistake. If you did make it, and need a reminder of how great it was, you should also click the link.

But yeah. This Saturday at ESL, we are privileged to be a part of the incredibly impressive Forward Festival  lineup that is taking over our beloved city starting this Wednesday. The Festival is brought to you by 88 DC — a crew of folks we have worked with in the past — and this year they are coming out swinging…be sure to check out the rest of the festival line up. Lots of creative folks are coming through and there really is a little something for everyone.

So on Saturday, The ForQuarters Collective will also be in the building — we will be holding down the main room (as usual) while they rock the patio (weather permitting) or the Gold Room all night. I’ve dj’d with these guys before on their home turf (Baltimore) and they throw down on the decks and are a great couple of dudes to boot. So Saturday is gonna be fire, I can guarantee it.

But Sunday we keep it going for the Forward Festival closing party (brought to you by 88 DC and Lil SoSo Productions) at Yards Park! It’s a great outdoor venue and we are throwing down with a whole grip of Forward Festival artists. AND there will be a bbq (sponsored by White House Meats) and brew provided by hometown heroes, DC Brau Brewing Co. It’ll be a time. I (also) guarantee it. Did I mention that it is free?

Oh. I almost forgot. The Sol Power All-Stars will be holding down Yards Park first Sundays THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER. Keep checking the site for more info, and remember, you heard it here first.

SXSW, bamas.

Yerp. That’s right. Wednesday the crew heads to SXSW in Austin, TX for the first time to rock it with some like-minded folks from around the country. We play a bunch of productions from most of the heads on the line-up, so it should be a grand ole time.

And the weather, too. Jealous?

RSVP HERE

Shout to Senari, Dave Nada & the Moombahton massive, and erryone else on the dope, dope line up.

Deep Sang presents Sol Power: Ringin In The Spring

We’re still shaking off the last of a cold winter here in DC, but with spring around the corner, and the Sol Power All-Stars heading down to balmy Austin, TX for SXSW next week, it seemed like a good time to drop a mix full of warm weather dance floor treats. Lots of Afro and Latin house with some tropical disco joints mixed in as well.  Hope yall enjoy!

mapale Totó la Momposina

This is the sound of Afro Colombia. I’m on a mission to learn more and add it to the Sol Power arsenal.

Los Chicharrons

Travel to some place far away. Record authentic roots music of that locale. Massage it into a modern musical project using studio expertise and session musicians. Not a new concept, but it’s solidly executed on Roots of Life by Los Chicharrons.

This DJ/producer duo used Mali as base of this project, and then threw a bunch of different styles - afrobeat, b-boy style funk, broken beat, latin - at what they recorded in Bamako.

Sol Power approved dopeness.
